Change! They heard the Call © 02.10.10 By Elijah Williams
Beguiled by smooth speech,
And soothing, airy claims
A fire burning weak inside
They sought to loose their chains.
Sweeping through the countryside
A savior, so it seemed
The long awaited lib'rater
His standard, how it gleamed.
‘Curse all war, and end all pain',
People stood in awe
‘Stop the heat and bring the rain';
Promise built of straw.
‘Never mind the money folks,
We'll just pull it out' our hat
It's only numbers in a book
Faith; we'll handle that'.
‘If it's greener grass and a cooler sun
You wish us to produce,
Your energy will cost you more
And the dollar will reduce'.
‘But wait! That's not the best,
Here's another smashing deal
Everyone gets social medicine
In the lines, you die or heal'.
‘Apologies to one and all,
I really failed to say
Just what I want to do with this
You'll change your minds one day'.
‘And come to realize by and by
That we really do know best,
That's why we're here and you're down there
Now really, take a rest'.
‘Our intelligence- yes it's great,
But we really can't conceive:
Shorts made up to detonate?
It sounds like make believe'.
‘Never mind, it's all part
Of learning as you go
We'll do better next time
Besides, it didn't blow...'
‘Criminal of war you say?
Now you're talking dumb:
If we play nice, it will suffice
And to their senses they will come'.
‘Well that's enough for a couple months,
Change? it could take years.
I have a headache, I need a smoke
To ignore the rising jeers'.
‘One more thing that's bugging me,
With this global warming how
Is D.C.'s snow is three feet deep
Where's Al Gore right now?'
