The Pegasus Journal is a quarterly fantasy ezine published in January, April, July and October. We accept submissions year-round. Our October issue will include the winners of our yearly poetry contest. Submission time for this contest is from July to September.

We publish one serial work a year. Serial works should be no longer than 40 thousand words in length and have four instalments. Each instalment should be individually entertaining as well as progressive for the story as a whole. Before querying have prepared a detailed outline, character list and first two instalments as these will be requested should your query make it to the second round.

Submission Guidelines:

We accept submissions by email only.
Our short fiction word limit is 9,000 words. Our preference is between 4,000 and 7,000 words.

Make sure the subject line of your email follows this format:
Submission - poetry/short/serial - story title - last name
Example: Submission - poetry - Black Orchid - Watson

NOTE: do not send attachments unless we request them. Paste the first ten pages of your submission into the body of your email. Do not indent paragraphs. We do need to have a line between paragraphs, though. If your sample pages look like a huge block of text in your email program follow these steps:

Open a new blank document in your word processing program.
Copy and paste the first 10 pages of your story into the new document.
Open the "Find and Replace" function [ctl+h].
In the "Find What" box put ^p
In the "Replace With" box put ^p^p
Click on the "Replace All" button.
The program will tell you how many replacements it made. Click "OK"
Close the "Find and Replace" function box.
Copy and paste the new document's text into your email program.

A Brief Guide to Fantasy Fiction.

We accept only fantasy fiction.

What we are NOT looking for: cute tales of talking animals, vampire stories, werewolf stories, angel/demon romances, romances of any kind, fan fiction, science fiction, urban fantasy that is mostly urban.

We want a story, not 5,000 words of blood sex and gore.

Supernatural stories do not qualify as fantasy.

Steampunk will be accepted if it has a strong fantasy element.

We look forward to hearing from you.
