Get A Gun, For Crying Out Loud!

There has been a slew of shootings across the nation recently - a couple that have been covered by the national news and so everyone knows about; a third that took place in a backwater town in north central Idaho and is unknown to anyone but the locals.

Omaho Ogre
Hawkins
In the first case a nineteen year old looser opened fire at a mall in Omaha Nebraska, killing eight people before turning the gun on himself. His suicide note said that he wanted to go out in style so that he would be famous. We always hear about how troubled these killers are (were), as if we are supposed to feel sorry for them and excuse their murderous behavior. That's the Christian thing to do after all. Well, I think the Christian thing to do is to drag iron and gun the creep down as soon as he lets go with the first shot - before he can kill anyone else. As is always the case, there were no law enforcement personnel on the scene when Robert Hawkins started shooting and so he was able to end the lives of eight innocent people before he shot himself.

Colorado killer
Murray
The second instance took place in Colorado when Matthew Murray decided that he didn't like the Youth With A Mission organization because they had given him his walking papers some time back. The killer first went to a
Heroine in Colorado
Jeanne Assam
YWAM training center in Arvada and killed two people before he made his way to New Life Church in Colorado Springs on Sunday morning to kill others. At the church Murray shot and wounded a man and killed his two daughters in the parking lot before he went into the church to continue his killing spree (there were 7000 people on the church campus at the time). However, big bad Matt (with two hand guns, a rifle and 1000 rounds of ammo), was met just inside the door by Jeanne Assam who promptly shot him six times. Apparently the Bible teaching Murray absorbed while involved with YWAM impelled him to kill himself before he died from the six rounds that Ms. Assam pumped into him; like Abimelech he didn't want to die at the hands of a woman. "It seemed like it was me, the gunman and God," said Assam, a former Minneapolis police officer. "I wasn't going to wait for him to do other damage. I knew what I had to do."

Believe it or not, before Murray's suicide was established there was a local law enforcement official who was wondering out loud if Ms. Assam should be charged with any crime for shooting poor troubled Matt six times. What an idiot.

Idaho Idiot
Wood
The third incident involved an apparently random attack by Douglas Wood on a police officer in his home near Kamiah Idaho. Wood hitch-hiked to the house of officer Jim Gorges and then knocked on the door. When Cpl. Gorges answered the door, Wood opened fire with a 38 caliber revolver. Officer Gorges was wounded in the arm but returned fire with his 40 caliber Glock and struck his assailant twice in the chest and once in the chin. According to information available at this time, it seems that Wood was simply out looking for trouble. He was decked out in elbow and knee pads and carried a machete along with the hand gun. The 40 year old Wood is a known trouble maker with a long history of run-ins with the local law enforcement.

The moral of these stories? Everyone who is capable and legally able to do so should be packing heat. The ogre in Omaha was able to do just what he wanted to do because there was no one there to stop him. On the other hand, the killer in Colorado was stopped before he could do more harm because there was someone there with a weapon who knew how to use it - and wasn't afraid to do so. The idiot in Idaho was stopped cold because he was met at the door with armed resistance. It doesn't matter that it was a cop who answered the door; anyone with a gun who was ready and willing to use it would have been able to do the same thing.

If they take way our right to keep and bear arms, I predict that a national blood bath will follow. The only people who will have guns at that point will be the bad guys; including the ones who are part of the bureaucracy. They can't protect us and they don't want us to be able to protect ourselves. For, if we can't protect ourselves from the criminal class on the street, we certainly won't be able to protect ourselves from the criminal class in the capital.
