Clueless In America © 06.20.07 By Bill Davis
A recent CBS/NY Times Survey shows that "Americans view global warming as a serious — and growing — problem" which makes me think that stupidity is a serious and growing problem here in the good ole U.S.A.
Anyone with a little time and intelligence who is willing to do a bit of research will find that there is no scientific consensus concerning global warming. There are scientist who believe it is occurring and that human activity is to blame (the point of view shared by most Americans). There are scientists who believe that it is occurring and that it is merely a natural cyclic phenomena. There are scientists who do not believe global warming is currently taking place but if it does, it will be due to the centuries long weather patterns which occur naturally. Finally, there are scientists who think we are entering a period of global cooling (and here and here and here and here).
Why is it then that we have heard so little about these scientists who don't agree with the party line? That should be clear enough: the main stream media is overwhelmingly leftist and in support of Big Government; Big Government gets bigger when there's a crisis that needs to be fixed; so, what better way to find a crisis that needs to be fixed than to fund "research" designed to find a crisis in need of fixing. Once said crisis is "proven", the main stream media can be counted on to do the rest. They'll report on the newly found crisis and the fine efforts of Big Government to fix it. (The participation of Al Gore in this whole deal is proof enough of what I'm saying here!) It's sad that the American people are so easily deceived.
Indeed, this widespread acceptance of the global warming bunk is just the tip of the iceberg. It's symptomatic of a larger problem. It seems that this country is made up of a bunch of buffoons, people who buy into whatever they hear from their favorite talking head. They don't want to think for themselves; it's so much easier to leave that up to the experts. They don't care about freedom and liberty; Big Government will take care of us. Intelligent participation in the political process is beyond their ken; our nation's formative documents are old, out of date and hard to read.
Frankly I don't think things are going to get better any time soon. Just look at who the front runners are in the (already tiresome), presidential race; big government types who want to keep the populace cowed through crisis. Global warming, terrorism, healthcare, immigration and so on are all trumpeted as catastrophes that need to be solved by the federal government. Baloney. What we need is some good old fashioned self government. We need to get rid of the Leviathan in Washington D.C., get back to the original ideas that this country was founded on and make a fresh start. I'm not holding my breath.
